Stanley was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on January 14th, 2011. Born and raised in Lodi to the late Henry and Ema Mettler on August 5th, 1926. He was the 8th of 11 siblings. He attended local schools until he answered the call to serve his country in the U.S. Navy during th Second World War. Upon his return he met and later married "The best woman in the world", Janet C. Reimer on March 30th, 1952. They settled on the family farm where they raised four sons while maintaining a dairy, wine grapes, and later sweet corn. During his down time (Stoney) could be found on the delta where he and his brothers fished until they felt they fished it out. He was an advocate of sports. In his youth, he played baseball with his brothers and were just one shy of having their own team. That same team was inducted to the Lodi Sports Hall of Fame in 1978. He took great pride in being a past president of the Tokay Athletic Club. Stanley is survived by is wife of 58 years, three brothers (Hubert, Charlie, and Lloyd), and tow sisters (Viola Racer and Marilyn Culbertson), his four sons Marc (Norma), Keith (Jackie), Stephen (Jody), all of Lodi, and Michael (Alison) of Arroyo Grande, six grandchildren (Sherry, Matthew, Doug, Shawn, Ryne, and Nick), and three great-grandchildren (Reilly, Neely, and Aurora). In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers (Raymond, Irvin, Vernon, Richard) and one sister (Laura Quaschnick), also one grandchild (Andrew). Stanley had many physical challenges in his life but he always got the best of care. He appreciated any and all caregivers who attended him. Stanley was a lifelong member of Zion Reformed Church. A graveside service will be held at Lodi Cemetery, 5750 E. Pine St., on January 25th at 2:30 p.m. with Pastor Matt Duerr officiating. At the family's request there is no visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to Zion Reformed Church.
