Obituary of LaVeta "Sue" Henslee

LaVeta "Sue" Henslee, of Lodi, passed away Monday, January 9, 2012 at Lodi Memorial Hospital. She went to the Lord peacefully, lovingly surrounded by family. Sue was born in Levelland, TX on July 23, 1933 to Raymond and Cecil McDermett. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Bill Henslee, children Gary (LaDonna) Henslee of Grass Valley, Sharon (Rick) Sanders of Lodi, Kathy Webster of Sacramento, 15 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild, sisters Melba McDermett and Patsy Baker (Bruce) both of Lubbock, TX as well as brother Raymond McDermett (Tino Calderon) of Austin, TX and numerous others. She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Cecil McDermett, son Larry Henslee and sister Betty Williams. While living in Lodi, Sue attended Church of Christ, where she was active in teaching children and singing on the Joy Bus. Sue worked at JC Penney, American Savings, Delta Credit Union and sold real estate for a time. She also was a success at selling Mary Kay cosmetics. She loved being with her family, reading, crossword puzzles and a good cup of coffee. She loved her computer and spent countless hours playing games, Farmville and sending jokes. Sue loved to paint and many of her scenic oil paintings grace the homes of family. Sue was multi-talented and also played piano by ear and sang whenever possible. Her delectable German Chocolate Cake was lovingly prepared for each family holiday which was bickered over by the family to her delight! She will be remembered for her kind heart, unselfish nature, and her ability to always find the good in all situations. She will be missed dearly by all those who loved her and will remain in our hearts forever. A Celebration of her Life will be held Saturday, January 14th at Church of Christ, 600 South Ham Lane, Lodi, CA at 1:00 pm.
