Obituary of Robert Walter "Bob" Clottu
Robert Walter Clottu was born January 8, 1917 in Sonora, CA to Nellie Vaughn and Robert William Clottu. He entered into rest November 7, 2013 in Lodi, CA. He was proud to be a third generation native of California, as well as his Swiss heritage. He was the oldest living male Swiss Clottu and his great grandson Jack is the youngest. "Bob" grew up in Manteca, CA and graduated from Manteca High School; being captain of his football team and school president. He earned a BS in Business Administration at University of California Berkeley. He was honorably discharged as a Lt. after 39 months of active duty with the United States Navy during World War II. Bob married his high school sweetheart Lorraine Briggs on August 18, 1939. They enjoyed a wonderful life together for 55 years. They had one son, Rob, who lives in Laguna Hills, CA with his wife Cindy. They gave him his two grandsons, Brian and Sean, whom he adored. He pursued a career with the Division of Apprenticeship Standards, Department of Industrial Relations State of California. After 38 years he retired on his 60th Birthday as Acting Chief of the Division and Executive Secretary of the Apprentice Council. In his early life, Bob enjoyed stream fishing, picnics, backpacking in the Sierra Nevada's, salmon fishing out the Golden Gate, cross country skiing, and hiking. Later, he played bridge, dominoes, golf and liked to write. He was Editor of the San Joaquin County Historian and editor of the Sunriver, Oregon Home Owner's Newsletter. He was a Docent at the Desert Museum Sunriver, Oregon, Haggin Museum Stockton, and San Joaquin County Museum at Micke Grove. Bob lived an active life, if he wasn't puttering in the garden, he was putting on the golf course until a few years ago. Bob and Lorraine built a house on Woodbridge Golf Course February 1986 after living in Stockton, Alamo, and Sunriver. They belonged to several Country Clubs: Diablo in Alamo, Sunriver in Oregon and of course, Woodbridge. The Lord blessed Bob a second time when Jeannette Waechter married him on June 29, 1996 and always said how lucky he was to have two women whom he adored. He and Jeannette had a happy life for 16 years. He was introduced to St. John's Episcopal Church after he met Jeannette and was baptized with his son and grandsons in 2004. He is predeceased by Lorraine Clottu and Jeannette Clottu. He is survived by his son Rob and wife Cindy of Laguna Hills, CA. their son, Brian and his wife Jenny, of Temecula, CA. their son, Sean and wife Marrissa, of Ladera Ranch, CA. and four great grandchildren. He is also survived by Jeannette's son, Rick Waechter and wife, Maryanne of Cary N.C. their son, Ted and his daughter, Charlotte, her daughter, Anne Posey, of Dallas Texas, her son, Matthew Kane, of Anchorage, Alaska, and her daughter, Tara Russell, of Dallas, Texas, and her four great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family. Services will be held at Episcopal Church of St. John the Baptist 1055 S. Lower Sacramento Road Lodi, on Monday November 11, 2013 at 1:00 pm. A reception will follow at the church. Donations may be made to the church in Bob's memory.
