Obituary of Hilma Lenora ""Jackie"" Jackson (Janke)

Hilma "Jackie" Jackson passed away on November 29, 2013 at the age of 87. She was born May 28, 1926 in Fredonia, Logan County, North Dakota. She is the daughter of Jacob Janke and Katherine Schlecht. Jackie lived on the family farm in Janke Township until 1934 when her family moved to a farm eleven miles southeast of Gackle in Gutschmidt Township in North Dakota. She attended local area schools where she received her elementary education. She then went to Gackle High in Gackle, North Dakota, she graduated from there in 1944. After graduation she moved to Everett, Washington, where her uncle Christian Schlecht and his wife Ida were living. Her Aunt Emma Schlecht also moved to Washington with her. Soon after arriving in Everett, Washington Jackie moved to Bellingham, Washington, where she begin working at the "Royal Cafe" as a waitress. It was at the "Royal Cafe" where she met Edward Donald Jackson, while he was on a brief leave from the Navy. They were married on March 6, 1945 after a short two week courtship. They lived for a while in North Dakota before moving to Minnesota. In 1982 Jackie moved to Lodi, CA with her husband and son. Jackie enjoyed playing bingo, knitting and crocheting, tending to her many flowers and plants and spending time with her granddaughter Katherine. She is survived by her husband of 68 years Edward Jackson: three children Shirley Young of NV, Sandra Waxon of MN and Paul (Peggy) Jackson of Lodi, CA; Sister Adeline Muller of Lodi, CA; 5 grand-children, 5 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Jacob and Katherine Janke, brothers Myron and Lloyd Janke. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to; American Legion Post 22, P.O. Box 521, Lodi CA 95241 Rocha's All Faiths Cremation & Burial will be assisting with the arrangements. Private memorial service will be Friday December 6, 2013.
