Obituary of Arthur Lee "John" Evers

Arthur Lee Evers, affectionately known as John, was born on February 28th 1943 in Lodi, CA. He spent his childhood living in the Northern California area, as well as Reno, NV, Fort Huachuca, AZ, and Newport News, VA. In 1959, John moved to Kaiserslautern, Germany, until his final year of high school, which was attended in Lodi. In 1961, John enlisted in the United States Army as an infantryman and attended basic training at Fort Ord, CA. His assignments include Kirchgoens, Germany; Gelhausen, Germany; Fort Riley, KS; and Ton Son Nhut Airbase, Republic of Vietnam. He served two tours of combat in Southeast Asia, his first being with the revered 2nd Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment of the 1st Infantry Division. His awards and decorations include the Army Good Conduct Medal (2nd Award), the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Meritorious Unit Citation, the Combat Infantryman Badge, and the Expert Infantryman Badge. John is survived by his love and life partner, Olga Mencarini; his children- Paula, Tim, and Grace (Lori); and his grandsons- Tommy, Trevor, Jesse, and Emilio. John was an avid stamp collector, enjoyed watching golf and the San Francisco Giants, bowling, and making trips to the casino. A big part of his life was also spending time with his little love, Cricket, their Jack Russell.
